Exhaust question

Postby 87e30 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 4:47 am

Does anyone know the size of the inlets on a stock 325is muffler? I'm pretty set on getting a Magnaflow 14816, but it only has a single inlet, so I need a Y pipe, but don't know what size the stock pipes are. I watched several vids of e30's with 14816's and 14815's, and they sound great! I need a new muffler anyway. Mine cracked right where the inlet pipes meet the muffler. Can't HEAR the crack, but you can wobble the muffler around a bit. Eventually I'll prolly do the whole exhaust, but I don't have the money for that now.

Thank you sir. I was worried they might be smaller. I had to upgrade my Camry to 2.25 single pipe lol.

it crushes in a few places. it's very annoying. The stock exhaust is a pile of crap.

Really? I had heard before that it was tuned pretty well for a factory exhaust.

for emissions, yes. You don't gain much from a catback but look at the crushes! If you do any power adders, the exhaust won't hold up well.

Got the Magnaflow 14816 with single 2.25" inlet. Bought a dual 2.25" to single 2.5" Y pipe and a 2.5" to 2.25" adaptor. I actually measured my stock pipes today and they're only 1.5" each! Now I have to get 2 1.5" to 2.25" adaptors. Does anyone even make a dual 1.5" to single 2.5" Y pipe?

My shop doesn't have the equipment to do any custom exhaust work. If we did I'd replace the whole system in 1 shot.

I don't know the 1st thing about welding. I'm just trying to get everything all ready so I can have someone at my job weld it up for me without having to stop and go buy more parts. I actually measured my pipes with a digital caliper, and they're 1.75 outer. Anyone know where to get a dual 1.75 outer to single 2.25 inner diameter Y pipe? I've e-mailed a few places with no replies at all yet. I might end up just saying fuck it and do the entire exhaust, headers back and go all 2.25".

you can always cut larger pipes and smash them into a smaller ID. Not too bad :)
