Motor been in for a bit. What would you retorque/check?

Postby Yoshi » Mon Jun 10, 2013 11:27 am

Basically, I'm paranoid as fuck. Too many bolts/fluids/issues to think about to get it done right in the first go. I've driven the car around for a good 20 miles and feel like it's a good time to get under it and make sure all the bolts are still there and nothing is uber leaking.

Things I'm gonna retorque/check:
Motor/trans mounts
drive shaft bolts
clutch fan (yep, managed to keep mine)
intake mani

What else? I figure things like the exhaust would have leaked by now. I also figure internal components or things like the oil pan would also have leaked but also might be more prone to leak if I get back at them. Hence why I'm leaving the head bolts be. They are ARPs anyway so I'd have to take the cams out. Maybe I should retorque the cam bolts... At one point in time, this motor was 100% apart minus bottom end rotating assembly.

In my past experience, I wind up stranded on the side of the road. I like being careful.

I was gonna a say motor mounts and trans mounts. Otherwise just run thru the bell housing bolts and maybe make sure that all your hoses are tight

When did Yoshi and Tony swap?!?! Glad to hear you got it running, just go through hoses, caps, bolts, straps and areas where things generally fall off :P

Hose clamps, ground strap nuts, any fastener used to secure something to a bracket of some sort. That's really it for me.

I'd check everything up top that I could, but hell I check the nuts on the rocker eccentrics a couple miles after a VA...

I checked out some of the driveline bolts yesterday and they were all tight. Visual inspection shows everything else on the engine is still there but I'd like to get a wrench around everything. Sadly, we are expecting a megastorm tomorrow so I can't get to it anytime soon. boo.

VA=Valve Adjustment. Confusing for someone who lives in VA, lol.
