Rear axle boot

Postby dahabit » Thu Feb 19, 2015 12:18 am

So, I was just poking around and I noticed one of the C.V. Shaft boot was coming off. So my question is, can I address it later or is it something that needs to be looked at ASAP.

My left boot has looked like that for 4 years. No problems so far, but your mileage may vary.

Well, that's good to hear.
Is it ok to put an 325i/325E H&R lowering spring on my 325is?

Dust and crap will get in the boot and eat away at the axle. You can replace the boot or just drive it till it starts making sounds and then replace it. I usually replace the whole axle when the boots tear.

I have H&R's with Bilstiens on my 87 325is. Don't remember the exact part number, but I can get that for you if you want.

I'm thinking it should be OK, both are 6cyl engines.

Has anyone done a coilover kit on their E30's?

I got H&R 50406. Box says "BMW M3 E30 4cyl 16V 1987-92" but they're in my 6cyl.

Bilstein sports, P36-0335 fronts and B36-2027 rears.

I've seen lots of e30's with coilovers. Couldn't tell you what brand they used or what they had to modify though.

Thanks man. I'm gonna go ahead and get it and see if it works.

Living in Canada sucks. Shipping charges alone is half the cost of the actual product.

Yeah, but can't you guys still buy ephedrine in bulk over the counter? I used to get it shipped from Canada for REALLY cheap.

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3679- ... t-e30.aspx and http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3714- ... -of-4.aspx should be what you need. Where were you looking to buy from? I just noticed this http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-4128- ... ckage.aspx package which is both of the first links in a package deal. Didn't notice that when I ordered my setup. I don't even want to see if it's cheaper lol.

Yep, looks like those say 50406 on them. Those are the ones I have. And about $90 less than I paid. Wait, is that USD or CAD?

It's in CAD, and it's used.
Turner Motorsport is selling these for $242, so I'm thinking it's not a bad buy.

That's a pretty good price now that CAD are worthless again. Worth less, worthless, either way. ;-)

Now that I look at them again though I noticed the rear springs are gray, not blue like the fronts. What's the part number on those? My rears are the same colors as the fronts.

Yes, I noticed the two different colors. So I asked the guy and he said he still have the other ones on his car.
But he told me he will take them off and give me which ever one I wanted.
