Insurance for modded cars?
So I'm in the process of changing my insurance and I let the agent talk me into getting full coverage on stated value for the e30. Well that fucked me since they required pictures of the car. Once they saw the "racing modifications" they denied coverage on it completely. I've been with geico forever with the car covered for liability only, so I guess worst cast I can stay with them for just the e30, but the whole reason I'm switching is because they jacked my rares for no apparent reason so I'm pretty pissed with them.
Who are you guys using, and how is your modded car listed/covered? If I can't even get liability insurance the car is pretty useless aside from occasionally going to autox events on a trailer...

I got gayco too. Yea... never tell your company it's a race car. None of them will insure you. Aside from theft, I see no reason for insurance on it outside of liability.

Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

I've got USAA, my coverage for the M3 storage is 37 dollars a year, I pay 38 a month here in Germany for the 318is and that's with a libility at over 10 million dollars (no joke). I love USAA for car insurance rates

Re: Insurance for modded cars?
I've had progressive with just Liability, mainly because I'm cheap. And MI being a no-fault state means rates suck for a guy my age. On the plus side adding my 318 last fall was only an extra $25 a month.
I have heard great things about Hagerty though, especially for classic/custom vehicles. I think about switching now and then, my car is starting to get to the point where even at full insurance, I highly doubt Progressive would give me what the car is worth if it was totalled by some soccer mom not paying attention in her SUV (pretty much my biggest fear).

Yeah, my car is worth so much more than blue book I need to insure against claimed value. Problem is to do that they all require pics of the car, and its hard to say its not a race car at this point...
Corbin, usaa is awesome, but not an option for a silky civilian like me.

Re: Insurance for modded cars?
Well, USAA is open to civilians now from what I've heard. I've had it since I was born and my mom got it through a promotion, no military reasons to be a member just a coincidence later. I'd try contacting them as they also provide insurance for older cars and you can insure a vehicle for an amount and pay premium on that and put it in storage, my Javelin is insured for I think 10k but is stored and only costs 40 bucks a month.
Re: Insurance for modded cars?
I recently tried to get a quote from USAA online. Started going through the application process and about 10 minutes in it asked about my relationship to the military. I have had a direct relative in the Air Force, but I do not have his SS number, nor do I have the desire to call him after 13 years to ask about it, so I could not get coverage by them.

Re: Insurance for modded cars?
Last I checked they require YOU or a DIRECT relative (brother, sister, mother, father, son, or daughter) to be active or retired military. I'm pretty sure your grandfather wouldn't qualify you. If I'm wrong please let me know.
