UnOfficial Winter Preparation Guide :)

Postby Yoshi » Fri Jan 20, 2017 2:30 pm

Ported from E30Tech

Alright, since this question came up alot in the last few weeks, and with winter approaching, I thought I would do a

writeup with the information I gathered from you guys. Here it goes....

1. Fill gas tank, and add a bottle of fuel stabilizer.

2. Get a GOOD waterproof car cover that has some kind of system to secure it so that it doesn't flap around.

3. If you can, put the car on jackstands to keep the tires from developing flat spots (or cracking).

4. If you can, try to store it in a garage (not everyones that lucky ).

5. Try to keep the car away from the roads, or anywhere where it will come in contact with road salt.

6. Try to take the battery out for the winter, as the cold will kill an unused battery (even a regularly used battery

is discharged by the cold, especially in Canada, where it can get VERY cold), if you can't, or don't want to remove

it, try to keep it charged.

7. Make sure all fluids are up to level and are in good condition. You don't want the wrong mix of coolant freezing

in your engine, or condensation building up in it either), maybe even change them a few hundred miles before

putting it away.

8. Try to start the car every once in a while, just to keep things working and fluids circulating.

9. Try and give the car a GOOD detail before you put it away. A thorough wash, some paint cleaner, and a few

coats of good wax will protect your paint, and will help blemishes and prevent rusting.

10. Check on the car regularly, and make sure nothing gets underneath the car cover (leaves, rocks, animals, the

neighbors kids ..etc).

When springtime comes:

1. Drain and replace all fluids.

2. Install fully charged battery (or if in car, charge it fully) or new battery.

3. Complete tuneup.

4. Inspect the car for rust or other problems, and address any immeadiately.

5. Check tire pressure, and condition of all rubber.

6. Do a thorough inspection of all under hood and driveline components, especially belts, hoses, bushings, all kinds

of rubber and wearable parts.

7. Check all bulbs in exterior and interior lighting, and for any malfunctioning gauges, electronics, lighting...etc...

8. Start up, drive easy for the first few miles to work everything back in, then enjoy another awesome season with

the E30!

That's what I go so far, if I missed anything, or anyone has anything to add, let me know...I'm aiming for a sticky

here!!!

Seems pretty complete to me. Just 1 thing... When you said drain and replace ALL fluids, some people might assume you mean the gas as well, which obviously isn't necessary if you followed step 1 in the preparation. Even without the stabilizer the gas SHOULD still be good after just a few months in the cold.

hey now, it's not stealing any more than making copies of cave art is. We're documenting a dead site that provided good info.

Is tech officially dead? I haven't visited over there in at least 5 years. STILL waiting on either of my membership applications from 2010 to be replied to.

The DNS has lapsed and the URL is no longer valid. So yea. I think it's pretty dead. Been like that for at least a month or two now.

I wish but they keep domains reserved for the original owner for a period of time. In order to obtain it, I'd have to go through a bunch of crap like contacting Chris.

Updating this. The domain is on autorenew. So the website exists but the database is bunk. So my hands are pretty completely tied. On the good side of things, the database likely still exists and could be pulled if Chris gets his head out of his ass.

There's always ways to snatch up domains that are reserved. I once had a domain stolen from me while it was still active! Now seeq.com wants me to pay $1888.00 to get it back. Fuq dat y0!

Wasn't hilarious when seeq stole my domain. It was active and hosted when they took it. I never found out how they did it.
