316 diagnostics socket cut off ???

Why do I have to unlock my doors through my trunk?

Hi folks, I recently purchased a 88 e30 316, when I got the car the rev counter and temp gauge wasn't working, and the p/o ham wired in some after market temp gauge, I managed to take out the PCB board with the battaries out a spare set of clocks I got with the car an fit them to my original clocks, now I hav a working rev counter and service lights :) but when I went to reset the service lights, it looks like the diagnostics socket has been cut off and the wires taped up :| has any1 any idea why this would hav been done? And how can I reset my servis light? Thanks nye

weight reduction

You're gonna have to find the wire print out for that socket and figure out what needs to do what to reset the service light. I thought it was just 2 wires and it resets the oil counter right?

yeah, same two wires for service and oil light, just touched together for different lengths of time. Pinout shoukd be here: ftp://filesharing.brasselerusa.com/E30/ under service manual.
